The ELLIS Unit Jena is further strengthen its research with a focus on transdisciplinary applications of advanced artificial intelligence techniques, such as scientific machine learning and explainable AI, in geoscientific fields, particularly hydrology. This includes the exploration of physics-informed deep learning, interpretative machine learning for scientific discovery, and computer vision applications in Earth systems. In this context, ELLIS is welcoming Carl-Zeiss-Foundation-Research-Group leaderDr. Shijie Jiang to the ELLIS Unit Jena. Additionally, PhD candidate Georgios Bouguras, recruited through the ELLIS PhD program, has been joining the group on August 1st, 2023. The occasion of their arrival was celebrated with a well-attended research colloquium.
